1. What Will You Store?

The starting point is the goods. Unit weight, size and packaging determine both bay dimensions and level spacing.

A frequently missed point is product variety. An archive storing one type of box and a spare parts store holding hundreds of different items cannot use the same layout. In the second case, bay count and addressing matter more than capacity.

2. How Will the Goods Be Accessed?

An item reached several times a day does not belong in the same place as one taken out monthly. When fast-moving goods sit at waist height and near the exit, picking time shortens noticeably.

Access frequency also affects level count. If the top levels are reached by ladder, rarely used goods go there. This simple rule saves significant time in daily operations.
